Opportunities to Learn

Spiritual learning or growth happens in many ways: through studies of the mind, through practices of the body, through the disciplines of daily prayer and weekly worship. Our congregation provides both periodic and regular ways to nurture our spiritual lives.

Book Study: Books on various topics draw together different groups of RBCCers through the year. Some people join every book study; others connect as time allows or interest is sparked. Recent book studies:

Holden Evening Prayer: This service of song and silence guides worshipers in contemplative reflection and prayer. We sing the prayers weekly during Advent and periodically during Lent. These evening times of worship are small and intimate and highlight the beauty of our sanctuary at night.

Labyrinth: The labyrinth on our grounds is always open to church and community. We periodically invite participation in the practice of walking the path. Occasionally outside groups use it for retreats.

Worship: Weekly worship is the most consistent communal way to deepen our spiritual lives. Coming each Sunday (whether we want to or not) helps us grow in the knowledge and practice of faith. Pastor Sarah’s sermons are well-researched and often teach something new while also offering encouragement or a challenge for living divinely grounded lives in the world today. The regular sharing of our lives, prayers, table connects us to people who we might not otherwise meet and expands our understanding of ourselves and our responsibilities to love and serve others.

Church Library: We have a small but well-resourced library. It includes groundbreaking books in biblical feminism, resources on spirituality and queer theology and back issues of popular progressive Christian magazines among many other titles and genres.
